Stars Support Woody's Trees
In fact, DeNiro, Ford, Julia Roberts, Glenn Close, Madonna, Elton John, Courtney Love and a dozen other well-knowns who want to save California's redwoods didn't even need to write state lawmakers to voice their concern, either. Again, they had the hemp-loving Harrelson to do that.
All they had to do was sign the former Cheers star's letter, which according to Associated Press, seeks to ax a deal agreed to by the Pacific Lumber Company and the California legislature that jeopardizes hundreds of acres of the towering tree.
"We appreciate a concern for protecting habitat, but this deal is not good for the forest and is an insult to taxpayers," the letter reads.
According to AP, Pacific Lumber's property, which is about 300 miles north of San Francisco, contains redwoods as old as 1,500 years.
Harrelson's letter--and its 19 celeb signatures--was reportedly sent to all 120 state lawmakers, who are now discussing the fate of the $130 million, so-called "Headwaters" deal.
As for Harrelson, when not saving the forest, he's been busy trying to spring his father from a murder rap in Texas. There's been no word yet of the White Men Can't Jump star climbing tall structures in that state, however.
