A Spring Awakening for Weeds' Hunky Hunter

Spring Awakening is getting infested with some Weeds.

Hunter Parrish, who plays Mary-Louise Parker's son on the hit marijuana Showtime series, is joining the cast of the angst-ridden rock 'n' roll Broadway musical Spring Awakening sources exclusively reveal.

The show, based on an 1891 German play of the same name, centers around a group of teenagers dealing with abortion, rape, suicide, masturbation and even some S&M. It won eight Tony Awards last year, including Best Musical.

Parrish, 21, will star as Melchoir, whose best friend kills himself and whose pregnant girlfriend dies after an illegal abortion. (Parrish may want to start poppin' some antidepressants now.) He'll make his debut in September.

The original Melchoir, Jonathan Groff, was nominated for Tony for his work in the show.

A rep for the musical said today that "it's been in discussion for while," but he hasn't been told that a final deal with Parrish has been signed.

However, I'm told that Parrish will hightail it to New York after Weeds wraps for the season later this month to spend August rehearsing for Spring Awakening.

Parrish is certainly a hot ticket these days. He's also featured in Vanity Fair's Young Hollywood issue hitting newsstands this month.
