Mr. Bean and his souped-up driving machine are in bad shape today.

Rowan Atkinson, the English comedian best known for playing the loveable, wordless man-child, was hospitalized Thursday with minor injuries after walking away from a high-speed car wreck.

It could've been a lot worse. Here's what happened.

Per British media reports, the 56-year-old Atkinson, an avid sports car enthusiast who races in his spare time, was driving his McLaren F1 supercar when he lost control of the vehicle on a wet road and smashed into a tree and then a lamppost around 7:30 p.m. outside of Haddon, a hamlet 85 miles north of London. No other cars were involved in the accident.

The McLaren—one of the world's most prized vehicles, which the funnyman purchased for around $1 million and which can go 0 to 60 in 3.2 seconds and reach speeds of up to 230 miles per hour—burst into flames and was totaled.

Luckily, Atkinson escaped relatively unscathed, only sustainin a minor injury to his shoulder. He was transported to a hospital in Cambridge where he was said to be doing fine and is expected to be released later today. Police gave Atkinson a sobriety test at the scene and no charges were filed.

A rep for the actor, who also stars in the BBC series Blackadder, declined to comment on the incident.

But this isn't Atkinson's first high-speed adventure to end badly. The thesp suffered minor whiplash after crashing his McLaren into another vehicle in 1999 in Lancashire. No word whether it's the same McLaren.

Atkinson also set the celebrity speed record on the U.K.'s Top Gear, where he also bragged about his McLaren during his appearance on the show.
