The Spector Five
Call it the broken record of the Phil Spector murder trial: A woman testifies of being threatened at gunpoint by the once-renown music producer.
Devra Robitaille, a former Spector love interest, became the fifth woman to add her touches to the oft-played riff as she took the stand Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Robitaille's testimony was not unlike the testimony of the four women who appeared in the courtroom before her: It was about a charming guy who grew exceedingly less charming the later a party ran, and the more a female acquaintance or love interest insisted on leaving.
Spector, 67, is accused of putting a gun in the mouth of B-movie actress Lana Clarkson, and shooting her to death in the foyer of his Alhambra, California, mansion in the early morning hours of Feb. 3, 2003.
Robitaille, a British-born musician, who once was romantically involved with the "Then He Kissed Me" producer, told jurors that Spector pulled a gun on her twice, once in the 1970s and once in the 1980s.
Both incidents, she said, came as she attempted to cut out on a bash that Spector didn't want her to cut out on.
"He said," Robitaille recounted of the alleged 1970s encounter, "'If you leave I'll blow your [bleep] head off.' "
Likewise, the 1980s incident, Robitaille said, occurred after she found herself "the last man standing" at a Spector party.
"The gun came out, and he was holding it at my face," Robitaille said, per wire reports.
On the brighter side, for the Spector defense, Robitaille said she made up with Spector after the first gun incident, wasn't frightened during the second incident, and didn't bring charges after either one. She said she kept her head, so to speak, during the first alleged barrel-to-face encounter by becoming "very British," and telling Spector to "stop mucking about."
Robitaille's testimony was part of the prosecution's rebuttal case.
Spector personally won't rebut Robitaille's, or any other witness's testimony—his defense team said Tuesday that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer won't take the stand, a move (or non-move) that had long been expected.
Spector joins O.J. Simpson "Dream Team" forensics expert, Dr. Henry Lee, on the sidelines. Lee's profile became a low one during the trial after testimony said he pocketed evidence, possibly a fingernail, from the crime scene.
Spector has pleaded innocent in the Clarkson shooting. The defense claims the Barbarian Queen star shot herself.
