"Sopranos" Star Befriends "Joey"
FBI stoolie Adriana La Cerva is ready to sing...the praises of NBC's Joey.
Sopranos star Drea de Matteo has been tapped to star as Matt LeBlanc's onscreen sister in the upcoming Friends spinoff.
The sitcom will revolve around the relationship between East Coast transplant Joey Tribbiani and his high-strung sis, Gina, a hairdresser and single mom to whiz kid Michael.
Sources also tell E! that Joey is in line to get Friends' cushy Thursday night time slot next season. NBC won't officially unveil its fall schedule until May 17.
Best known for her Sopranos stint as mob moll Adriana, de Matteo's character has enjoyed some compelling screen time since becoming a government informant last season.
The thesp, who also owns a clothing store called Filth Mart in Manhattan, has starred in Swordfish and Deuces Wild. She's currently shooting the real-life inspired drama West Memphis Three about three teens convicted in a triple murder case.
According to sources, de Matteo's new role on Joey won't interfere with her contractual obligations to the mafia series' sixth and final season.
Meanwhile, LeBlanc's current costar Jennifer Aniston has scored herself another post-Friends gig.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the actress has signed on to star in Gambit, a remake of the 1966 British caper film that starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine about a couple who plot to pull off the perfect heist.
Just last month, the Along Came Polly star committed to an untitled comedy for Warner Bros. about a woman who discovers that her family was the real-life inspiration for the movie The Graduate.
In related news, Matthew Perry will team up with his dad and fellow thesp, John Bennett Perry, to play father and son in the film The Beginning of Wisdom. The two also played a father-son duo in 1997's Fools Rush In. Perry, who will appear in the sequel The Whole Ten Yards with Bruce Willis, is expected to shoot the indie drama Fever.
Not that the other cast members aren't busy with their own post-Friends projects: Courteney Cox, who is expecting her first child later this year, is producing Mix It Up, a Trading Spaces-like show for the WE cable channel; Lisa Kudrow has lined up roles in the films Living and Breathing with Mena Suvari and Anjelica Huston, and Happy Endings with Jennifer Garner and is in talks to executive produce a UPN pilot called Beck and Call; and David Schwimmer is developing the sitcom Home and Hardware for NBC starring Alyson Hannigan and will topline the indie drama Duane Hopwood.
