The Skinny on John Waters' Baby

John Waters is so involved with the musical adaptation of his 1990 hit movie Cry-Baby, he's even been telling the stars what to eat.
Well, more like what not to eat.
James Snyder, 26, stars in the upcoming stage musical—previews begin this November at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego—as the title juvenile delinquent/aspiring singer character, played in the flick by Johnny Depp.
Leave it to Waters to be happy when Snyder recently fell ill.
"I had gotten the stomach flu and lost 10 pounds, and [Waters] thought it was fantastic," Snyder told Planet Gossip's Matt Donnelly last night at the premiere of the indie movie Anderson's Cross, in which he stars as a high school student having an affair with his male gym coach.
Of course, Waters also insisted Snyder duplicate Depp's 1950s jet-black pompadour. "He was adamant about the hair," Snyder said. "He said it was a little too long in the back, but it's fine now."
Cry-Baby will reportedly hit Broadway in March. The movie adaptation of Waters' Hairspray hits theaters July 20.
