Sizemore's Latest Drug Screw-Up
A fake penis and a nasty methamphetamine habit may prove to be Tom Sizemore's downfall.
The troubled actor appeared in court Thursday in Los Angeles for a probation violation hearing after getting caught using meth and trying to trip up court-ordered drug tests with "The Whizzinator," a prosthetic penis designed to falsify drug test results.
The Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan star, who is on probation for smacking around ex-girlfriend Heidi Fleiss in 2003, was found in possession of methamphetamines and has failed drugs tests seven times in the past month, according to Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Antonio Barreto Jr.
"There are two ways for you to go," said a grim Barreto. "One is to recover. The other is to die."
Prosectuor Sean Carney requested that Sizemore be taken into custody immediately for his violation. Carney told reporters that while Sizemore has been living at a rehab center in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier, it was obvious he was still able to score drugs.
The judge denied the jail request, but that doesn't mean Sizemore will escape unscathed. The 43-year-old actor is due back in court on Mar. 24, when he will likely locked up for a long time.
He will be sentenced for two misdemeanor probation violations and will also be sentenced by another judge for felony drug possession. In all, Sizemore could spend four and a half years behind bars and an extensive stint in drug rehab.
The drug rap also put a major dent in Sizemore's travel plans. Before his latest screw up, Sizemore had been given permission by Barreto to fly to Cambodia to shoot a movie. That trip has now been scotched--Barreto barred the actor from leaving the country.
Sizemore, who showed up an hour late for court, remained quiet during most of the proceedings, answering "yes, sir" to questions and warning posed by the judge. He was also subjected to a lecture on the perils of meth use.
"The defendant is addicted to methamphetamine, is out of control and cannot stop," Barreto said. "Meth has consumed any will he may have had to stop [using]."
The judge also chastised the actor and called his repeated drug problems "a tremendous loss of talent."
Despite the rough time in court and the prospect of prison time, Sizemore seemed confident in his future (and his lawyers) outside of court.
"They were trying to put the shackles back on me...But they didn't because of [my attorneys] and most importantly me, because I have an indomitable spirit," he told reporters. "I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to make movies. I should never have been in this mess in the first place."
