"Sideways" Couple Goes South

It's over and out for the Sideways couple of Alexander Payne and Sandra Oh.

A month after announcing their separation, the Oscar-winning writer-director and his actress wife are heading for divorce court as Oh filed Thursday to deep-six their marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

Oh, 34, and Payne, 44, had been an inseparable fixture on the awards circuit in recent months. He won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing the wine-soaked comedy and she shared a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Ensemble. She starred in the film as free-spirited wine pourer Stephanie.

Although the couple were spotted post-Oscar party-hopping in February, they had had enough by mid-March, releasing a statement through their publicist saying they "have mutually decided to separate" and "will remain friends."

The couple married in January 2003 after dating for three years. They had no children.

Oh filed her divorce petition in Los Angeles Superior Court. She is seeking unspecified spousal support and is also asking the court to block Payne from requesting anything from her.

Aside from wrangling over their split, the soon-to-be exes are keeping busy.

Payne, whose credits also include About Schmidt, Election and Citizen Ruth, is prepping the road-trip saga Nebraska, about a father who talks his son into driving him from Montana to the Cornhusker State to pick up his lottery winnings.

Oh, who first gained fame playing the motor-mouth secretary on HBO's sports-themed comedy Arli$$, is currently starring in ABC's new hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy.
