Sheridan Not Desperate for Marriage
Apparently, Nicollette Sheridan wasn't so desperate to become a housewife.
The sultry small-screen star and her fiancé, Niklas Soderblom, have called off their engagement, the actress' publicist announced Wednesday.
"Nicollette Sheridan and Nicklas Soderblom have parted ways after a year and a half," Sheridan's publicist, Nicole Perna, confirmed in a statement to E!. "They ask that you respect their privacy at this time."
Sheridan and Soderblom, also an actor, got engaged last winter, shortly after Soderblom gifted the actress with a golden retriever puppy for her 41st birthday.
Just days ago, the twosome appeared together for the Los Angeles Red Cross Celebrity Auction at a private home in Beverly Hills, where Sheridan denied rumors that she had split from Soderblom, according to People magazine, which first reported the split on its Website Wednesday.
Looks like she spoke too soon.
Had the duo made it to the altar, it would have been the second marriage for the Desperate Housewives star, who was wed to Harry Hamlin from 1991 to 1993. Other famous ex-boyfriends include onetime teen heartthrob Leif Garrett, whom she dated from 1979 to 1985, and crooner Michael Bolton.
Before landing her role as neighborhood vamp Edie Britt on ABC's Housewives, Sheridan starred as Paige Matheson on Knot's Landing from 1986 to 1993.
She had roles in a string of forgettable movies over the years, including Raw Nerve and .com for Murder, and voiced a character in the direct-to-video animated release of Tarzan & Jane.
Then came Housewives, last season's monster hit, which propelled Sheridan back into the public eye, and earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Sheridan also landed smack in the middle of one of last season's most heated controversies after she appeared as Edie in an ABC Sports promotional segment for the NFL and dropped her towel for Philadelphia Eagles star Terrell Owens.
The FCC subsequently received more than 50,000 calls and emails regarding the segment, but eventually determined that it did not violate decency standards.
Despite complaints of a slump in the second season's story line, Housewives' ratings remain strong.
The steamy nighttime soap was the second-most watched show for the week ended Sunday, with 25.2 million viewers tuning in for the latest happenings from Wisteria Lane.
