Sheen Under Supervision
Charlie Sheen has agreed not to be alone with his children with Denise Richards, at least for now.
Lawyers for the estranged twosome appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court Friday and announced that the Two and a Half Men star would submit to supervised visits with his daughters for the time being, per TMZ.com.
A custody hearing was scheduled for July 13, giving a psychologist time to conduct an evaluation to determine what custody arrangement would best suit the needs of two-year-old Sam and 11-month-old Lola.
The couple released a joint statement through their representatives Friday, indicating their desire to work out their custody dispute.
"Denise and Charlie are working with the courts to privately resolve their differences regarding their children," the statement read. "They hope to resolve this matter outside of the public forum and will both continue to make every effort in this regard."
Richards obtained a restraining order against her ex last month, after she filed a lengthy court declaration alleging, among other things, that Sheen threatened her life, grappled with addictions to gambling and prostitutes, and frequently surfed what appeared to her to be kiddie porn sites.
Though Sheen denied Richards' claims, calling the declaration a "most obvious immature and transparent smear campaign," a judge ordered him to stay at least 300 feet away from his soon-to-be ex-wife.
Richards originally filed for divorce in March 2005, at which time she requested full custody of the children, with visitation rights for Sheen. Sheen fired back in his own divorce papers, demanding joint legal and physical custody.
Last fall, the couple briefly reconciled, but in January, Richards announced she was moving forward with divorce proceedings.
Though the duo requested that their divorce proceedings be removed from Los Angeles Superior Court and placed in the hands of a private arbitrator, presumably to keep any sordid details from becoming public, the strategy seems to have failed them so far.
Adding to the drama surrounding the split is Richards' new relationship with Richie Sambora, the estranged husband of her former best friend, Heather Locklear.
Though one would expect Locklear to be the wronged party in this situation, Richards insisted that she was the one blind-sided by her friend's "betrayal."
"Heather knows why we aren't friends," Richards told TMZ.com last week.
Both Richards and Sambora have claimed that nothing happened while the other was still married.
However, David Spade, rumored to be Locklear's beau du jour, told reporters last month that Locklear was "still nursing the knife wound in her back."
