Everyone knows it's in style to be politically active.

We've moved past Diddy's infamous "Vote or Die" campaign, but celebrities are still using fashion as a platform to express their political views.

Tuesday night in New York City, the stars came out for the launch of Runway to Win, a collaborative effort by American designers to support President Barack Obama's reelection campaign.

Actress Scarlett Johansson, who cohosted the fete alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, explained just why selling super-cute T's and totes can help give some Obama job security when the 2012 election rolls around...

"I think the most important thing is that the fashion world has an international spotlight shown on it," she told reporters. "To be able to use that spotlight on a cause like this is incredible."

The 27-year-old We Bought a Zoo star said the idea of "conscious consumerism" was appealing, and that "any way to reintroduce that kind of cool factor [to Obama's reelection campaign] is very valuable."

Johnasson reiterated that she doesn't "ask people to go in and vote for Obama," but rather, she just asks them to vote. "You have to voice your opinion," she explained.

So just who has better style, Barack or Michelle Obama? "I think they're just a very stylish couple in general," Johansson laughed. "They both have a casual cool about them."

Fair enough. They have both done their part to add some swagger to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
