Sarah Jessica Parker Snoop Gets Wrist Slap

Someone just got lucky. And it wasn't the Sex and the City gal.

A suspended Ohio lawman has managed to avoid prison and instead was sentenced today to 50 days of house arrest along with three years of probation for his role in a plot to swipe souvenirs from the home of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick's surrogate and attempt to sell them to paparazzi.

Bridgeport, Ohio, Police Chief Chad Dojack, who pleaded no contest last week to one misdemeanor count of dereliction of duty, was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and pay a fine of $1,020.

His partner in crime, Police Chief Barry Carpenter of nearby Martins Ferry, didn't fare as well. Last November, he was convicted of felony charges including theft in office in connection with the June 2009 break-in at the residence of Michelle Ross and received two years and eight months behind bars.

Per local station WTOV, Bridgeport's City Council held a meeting Tuesday to determine if Dojack should continue heading up its law enforcement department given that he failed to uphold the law and prevent Carpenter from proceeding with the scam—in essence making him an accessory.

No word yet whether he'll hold onto the job. After all, it's hard to find a qualified lawmen to keep the crime down. Yeesh.
