SAG Ensures Indie Cred in Case of Strike

SAG just bagged an insurance policy.

The Screen Actors Guild has struck a deal that will allow at least 95 indie films to be finished in the case the union fails to reach a new deal with major studios when the current contract expires June 30.

The independent producers in question have signed completion agreements that will allow them to seek financing and let the cameras roll (with actors still in front of them), so long as they're willing to abide by the eventual deal between SAG and the the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents the big studios and networks.

Productions seeking assurances that the show will go on include the upcoming Pablo Escobar biopic Killing Pablo, starring Christian Bale, and the romantic comedy The Governess, featuring Jennifer Lopez in the titular Cinderella figure.

Word of the deal comes as reps for the guild resumed formal talks today with AMPTP, after several days off to mull over proposals laid out on both sides of the table.
