Roy Returns to Vegas
It looks like Siegfried Fischbacher got his Christmas wish.
Earlier this month, the healthy half of illusionist duo Siegfried & Roy said his goal was to bring his partner Roy Horn home for the holidays.
On Monday, Fischbacher saw that goal fulfilled--Horn was released from UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and transported home to Las Vegas.
Horn has been hospitalized since his October 3 mauling at the jaws of Montecore, a 600-lb white tiger who attacked Horn during a sold-out stage performance at the Mirage hotel.
The cat-taming magician lost massive amounts of blood and suffered a stroke following the attack. Part of his skull was removed to relieve pressure on his brain. Though his doctors have been tight-lipped about his condition, it was reported that Horn was left unable to walk, talk intelligibly or eat.
Horn was moved to Los Angeles for treatment in late October once his condition stabilized slightly--though his condition has never been publicly listed above serious.
Now, nearly two months later, the animal-loving magician is headed home.
The illusionist still has a long recovery ahead of him and will continue his rehabilitation under the care of a team of doctors and therapists.
And, of course, his loyal partner will remain by his side as he has throughout Horn's ordeal.
Fischbacher has never wavered from his opinion that the tiger's attack on his partner was a misunderstanding.
"It was not an attack, it was an accident," Fischbacher insisted to the Los Angeles Times earlier this month. "It was not a bite--in two seconds, Roy would have been finished--and the cat was not growling. He was very gentle."
Nor does Fischbacher have any doubt that Horn will recover fully. He points to the fact that Horn is now breathing on his own and can communicate via notes as evidence that his partner is on the mend.
Even if Horn does make a full recovery, it is fairly certain that the Siegfried & Roy stage act will never return to its former glory.
Following the attack on Horn, the long-running show closed its doors at the Mirage, sending hundreds of workers on a quest for new jobs and ending the hotel's $44 million annual take from the performance.
Fischbacher has said he will never take the stage without Horn by his side, so it looks like Montecore and the rest of the kitty gang have earned themselves an extended vacation.
