Rod Stewart Engaged
Apparently, Rod Stewart has still got it.
The "Maggie May" singer, 60, got engaged to longtime girlfriend Penny Lancaster, 33, over the weekend in Paris, after dropping to one knee atop the Eiffel Tower and popping the question.
The twosome has been dating for over five years and plan to marry later this year, Stewart's record label said.
"I left it this long because I wanted to get it right this time," Stewart said in a statement. "I've never been happier and more in love than I am today."
Stewart was previously wed to Rachel Hunter, with whom he has two children. Though the pair split in 1999, their divorce proceedings have yet to be finalized.
Before that, Stewart was married to Alana Stewart, a union that produced two children and ended in divorce in 1984. (All told, Stewart has six children by four different women.)
Stewart's agent, Nicholas Young, said the couple would make wedding plans once Stewart's divorce from Hunter goes through. He said Stewart's preference was to marry in Scotland.
It's been a big year for the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.
Last October, his most recent album, Stardust...Great American Songbook, Vol. III, debuted atop the Billboard 200 with the most single-week sales ever chalked up by the rocker over the course of his four-decade career. It also earned him his first career Grammy in February, winning the Traditional Pop Vocal Album trophy.
He was the sixth-highest earning musician in 2004, taking home $34.6 million, per Rolling Stone. "Maggie May" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" were also rated among the magazine's 50 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Then there were the low points. In November, a jury ruled that Stewart must repay three concert promoters a $780,000 advance for a Latin American concert tour that never took place. Stewart had argued he should be allowed to keep the money, due to the time he had committed to planning the tour.
In December, Stewart was sued by a pair of fans who claimed they were injured during a concert at the Hollywood Bowl after the rocker and former soccer star kicked a ball into the crowd.
Good thing he made all that money last year.
On Monday, Stewart was set to induct Percy Sledge into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
