Rock Rolls Accuser with Lawsuit
Kid Rock is no devil. But he certainly has a cause.
As promised, the Cocky singer has sued a Michigan woman who accused him of assaulting her at his Brandon Township home two weeks ago, claiming she falsified the allegations to harm his reputation.
The civil complaint, filed in Oakland County Circuit Court under Rock's real name, Bob Ritchie, alleges 28-year-old Kelly Kozlowski invaded the musician's privacy, defamed him and cast him in a negative light by filing a false police report that claimed he roughed her up on the night of Mar. 8 by pushing her headlong into a snowbank.
The allegedly false report was then picked up by newspapers and Internet sites worldwide, Rock contended.
After probing the incident, Oakland County prosecutors declined to file charges in the case last week, citing lack of evidence. Rock fired back by filing suit against the woman for making what he described as bogus claims and attempting to extort money from him.
"The suit is designed to, one, set the record straight that in fact the incident never happened and that this accuser will be found out in court," Rock's attorney, Michael Novak told E! Online Friday. "That's the first purpose so that the record clearly shows that Bob Ritchie does not assault women.
"Secondly, we think it will have a deterrent effect for anyone else who thinks they can fabricate a story and shake down Rock...they'll think twice about it. He's incensed and he's just not willing to walk away from it," Novak added.
Rock, 36, got into this mess when he met Kozlowski, her beau and others at a Clarkston bar where they had been drinking and invited them back to his home recording studio to sample some tunes he'd been working on for his upcoming album.
According to Rock's lawsuit, the female fan turned into a bad house guest after downing too much alcohol, "placing drinks" on a very expensive mixer and becoming "verbally abusive and belligerent" toward the Grammy winner and the other guests, not to mention dissing the new music.
Her allegedly bad behavior prompted Ritchie to request that she and her boyfriend leave the party at around 2 a.m. When they resisted, the "Cowboy" crooner then warned them that he would call police. As the couple headed out the door, Kozlowski threatened to go to the cops with unfounded allegations that Rock assaulted her, according to court papers.
Apparently, that's exactly what she did.
In her version of events, as related in her now dismissed complaint to the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, Kozlowski told deputies that as she was leaving Rock's residence, the rap-rocker asked her to stay the night. She turned down the offer, saying she had to get home to her kids. She contended Rock became angry at that point and uttered expletives, then followed her outside, where he grabbed her neck and shoved her into the snow.
But according to authorities, investigators subsequently interviewed two other guests at the party who contradicted Kozlowski's story. Those details and the fact that Kozlowski showed no sign of any injuries led prosecutors not to pursue charges against Ritchie.
Rock's suit seeks unspecified damages in a jury trial. Kozlowski could not be reached for comment.
The Detroit native, who's in the end stages of a divorce from former Baywatch beauty Pamela Anderson after four short months of marriage, has been keeping busy collaborating with legendary producer Rick Rubin on his new, still untitled disc, due sometime in April. After that, Rock will embark on a massive national tour in support of the album.
