Richie's Beau Bypasses Health Probs
Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein is dealing with some weighty issues--and this time they have nothing to do with girlfriend Nicole Richie.
A publicist for the in-demand turntabler confirms that he recently checked himself into a Santa Monica hospital for a standard follow-up procedure to his 2003 gastric bypass surgery, but denies reports that Goldstein was admitted as a result of any complications.
No further details were released.
According to In Touch Weekly, Goldstein's follow-up procedure was a cosmetic one.
The magazine reports that he checked into St. John's Hospital on Apr. 20 to have nearly 20 pounds of excess skin--a frequent byproduct of rapid weight loss--removed from his 170-pound frame.
Paparazzi have dutifully documented former fiancée Richie's frequent trips to the facility. Although the couple called off their engagement in December, they have remained very close.
Goldstein has frequently spoken out about undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2003, from which he professes to have lost 154 pounds.
"I was terrified," he told Entertainment Tonight after undergoing the four-hour operation. "It's a very serious thing, and is by no means the easy way out. It was mainly a health factor. My knees were giving out. I'm 30 and I could barely walk around. Going up one flight of stairs, I was completely winded. It was absolutely unhealthy."
Richie, meanwhile, will soon be making the PR rounds promoting the fourth season of The Simple Life with former BFF Paris Hilton. The reality series kicks off June 4 on E!
