Richard Simmons Off the Hook

Looks like the slap-happy Richard Simmons won't be sweatin' out a trial.

Simmons was facing a court date after allegedly smacking a strapping 255-pound ex-con who made fun of Simmons' exercise videos.

But the judicial showdown was scrapped when a misdemeanor assault charge against the diminutive diet guru was dropped last Friday by a Phoenix judge, according to Municipal Court records published on The Smoking Gun Website.

Simmons, real first name Milton, got off easy after his victim, Chris Farney, filed a "misdemeanor compromise" that stated "full satisfaction" had been received for the injury inflicted.

No word whether that "full satisfaction" included a cash payout to Farney. The cage wrestler turned Harley Davidson salesman had reportedly mulled filing a civil suit over the incident.

A call to Simmons' lawyer was not returned Tuesday.

Farney's no stranger to the legal system himself, having spent close to three years in the slammer for aggravated assault after a friend was badly injured when a drugged-up Farney crashed his car.

Simmons, better known for his frizzy 'fro, skimpy gym shorts and manic energy level than for smacking down strangers, was arrested in March after assaulting Farney at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

According to the police report, the flamboyant fitness fanatic was waiting for a flight to Los Angeles when Feeney teased "Hey everybody, it's Richard Simmons, let's drop our bags and rock to the '50s."

The 155-pound Simmons retaliated with, in the words of one officer, "a bitch slap" and the warning, "It's not nice to make fun of people with issues."

Cops busted the 55-year-old aerobics impresario but ultimately allowed him to board his flight.
