Redmond O'Neal Not Ready to Face the Music on Double Felony

Redmond O'Neal, Mug Shot Santa Monica Police Dept.

He slipped up. And this time, the legal system isn't going to break his fall.

Redmond O'Neal was formally charged this morning with two felonies stemming from his bust Tuesday, getting slapped with possession of a controlled substance (namely, heroin) and possession of a firearm by a felon.

O'Neal, who is already on probation for a no contest drug charge stemming from 2009, has been biding his time jailed without bail since getting collared earlier this week, took time out of his busy day in lockup to make his way down to the courthouse and get officially arraigned on the dual charges. So how'd he plead?

Surprise, surprise: he's not copping to the seemingly cut-and-dry charges and entered a not guilty plea.

The judge remained unmoved, however: he was denied bail and remanded back into custody.

The 26-year-old son of Ryan O'Neal and the late Farrah Fawcett was arrested Tuesday during a routine traffic stop, when he was pulled over for turning left at a red light, only for the officer to discover the illegal paraphernalia. A subsequent search of his apartment turned up the gun (while possession of a firearm in and of itself is, of course, perfectly legal, that's not the case for convicted felons).

While he only got charged for two felonies today, at the time of his arrest, he was cited for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, probation violation and a red-light violation.

The next hearing, set for Aug. 24, will deal with his probation violation.
