The Real World Goes to Washington
Will President Barack Obama be making a cameo on The Real World?
The show's 23rd season is set to begin filming this summer in Washington, D.C., MTV has announced.
It's worth noting that the commander in chief had a cameo in the 21st season, set in Brooklyn, as cast members debated throughout the election and attended a results party. Additionally, with a veteran soldier called back to active duty in Iraq and a postop transsexual, the Brooklyn cast was arguably the series' most politically charged and provocative in recent years.
Apparently, politics = ratings.
However, you won't see MTV capitalize on that momentum right away.
The inevitably trashy Real World: Cancun premieres June 24, but people's reaction to the Brooklyn cast clearly made an impression.
"Young people have never been more engaged in what's happening in this country and Washington, D.C., is the perfect place for The Real World cast to express their opinions and pursue their passions," executive producer Jonathan Murray said in a statement.
The cast most likely will not have jobs, further following the Brooklyn cast's return to the show's original model. In March, when the network announced the order for four more cycles, Murray promised to abolish the group job format when the roommates were placed in a bigger metropolis.
The eight strangers move into their posh pad this summer, with their experiences (read: arguments, hookups, drunken escapades) airing in early 2010. They won't be the only reality stars storming the Hill. The fifth installment of Bravo's Real Housewives will also be set in D.C.
