Prosecutors: Kid Rock No Devil

Has somebody been messin' with the Kid?

Authorities in Michigan have declined to file charges against Kid Rock for allegedly assaulting a female fan at his Brandon Township residence, citing lack of evidence.

"The reports are fraught with differing eyewitness accounts and without substantiating injuries there exists insufficient evidence to support a charge," Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca said in a statement.

According to the complaint filed with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, a copy of which was obtained by the Detroit News, a 28-year-old woman accused the rap-rocker of roughing her up on the night of Mar. 8 by pushing her headlong into a snowbank.

The 36-year-old Rock, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, met the unidentified female at a bar in nearby Clarkston where they had been drinking and invited her and a male friend back to his house to sample some tracks from his soon-to-be-released album, according to the police report.

The woman told deputies that as she was preparing to leave around 2 a.m., Rock asked her to stay the night, an invitation she declined, saying she had to get home to be with her kids.  At that point, she contends the Devil Without a Cause crooner became angry and uttered expletives, then followed her outside, grabbed her neck and shoved her into the snow.

After probing the incident, however, the Oakland County District Attorney's office declared there was little evidence to go on and dismissed the complaint.

Rock and two of his friends who witnessed the encounter told officers that it was the woman, not the musician, who became "obnoxious" and belligerent after downing too much alcohol, according to the Detroit News

As Rock told it, the woman placed her drink on a very expensive mixer in his home studio and began making unflattering remarks about his new music, prompting the Grammy winner to request that she leave the party.  As she headed for the door, the woman reportedly threatened to go to the cops with bogus accusations that Rock assaulted her.

Rock's lawyer, Michael Novak, could not be reached for comment, but previously told the newspaper that his client plans to sue the woman for filing a false police report.

"Her claims are false and malicious and this is nothing more than a shakedown," the legal eagle said.  "[Rock] may not have used the best judgment in inviting them to his house that night, but this is how he is paid back for being a nice guy."

Novak also suggested the woman had been stalking his client for some time.

"We are trying to determine her identity and plan to sue her for damages," the attorney added.

When he's not defending his good ol' boy reputation against unfounded allegations, Rock's been busy dealing with his split from former Baywatch beauty, Pamela Anderson, after four short months of marriage.  Their divorce is due to become final on May 28.

On the career front, the "Cowboy" star has teamed up with legendary producer Rick Rubin for the new, yet-to-be-titled disc, which reportedly eschews rap and country for straight-up rock and roll.  It's expected to drop sometime in April.
