Prince's Chart Coronation

Prince is purple reigning on the charts.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, who launched his career nearly three decades ago, scored his first ever number-one debut, as 3121 rolled up sales of 183,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

While Prince topped the charts with 1989's Batman soundtrack, 1985's Around the World in a Day and his 1984 mega-smash, Purple Rain, 3121, his first album released by Universal, is his only disc to enter in the top spot. His 2004 Grammy-winning comeback, Musicology, released via Columbia, peaked at number three.

Prince led a quartet of newcomers into the top 10, all of whom registered personal milestones.

Big Easy emcee B.G. landed a career-high number six, with The Heart of tha Streetz, Vol. 2: I Am What I Am selling 62,000 copies. The rapper previously made a name for himself as a part of Cash Money's Hot Boys, which also featured Lil' Wayne, Turk and recent chart-topper Juvenile.

Ben Harper registered a new best as the double-disc Both Sides of the Gun sold 59,000 copies to open at number seven. Harper is also one of the "friends" on Jack Johnson & Friends' Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, which opened at number one last month.

New teen sensation Teddy Geiger nabbed the fourth and final top 10 entry as his debut album, Underage Thinking, checked in at number eight with 56,000. The youngster was first seen on VH1's In Search of the Partridge Family and had a small role on the CBS series Love Monkey. The video for his debut single, "For You I Will (Confidence)," features Laguna Beach hottie Kristin Cavalleri.

The rest of the top 10 were familiar faces, led by last week's chart-topper, Disney's High School Musical soundtrack. The disc fell to number two behind Prince, but actually sold 10,000 more copies, ending the week with 152,000. The surprise smash is on track to hit the million mark in total sales by the end of this week.

Meanwhile, thanks to an American Idol guest appearance, Barry Manilow's The Greatest Songs of the Fifties rocketed 22 spots to number four on 78,000 copies. Also climbing back into the top 10 was Alan Jackson's Precious Memories, which moved up five spots to number nine on 56,000 copies sold. Wal-Mart currently has the album on sale at nearly half price, which helped spur sales.

Rounding out the top 10: James Blunt's Back to Bedlam at three, Ne-Yo's In My Own Words at five and The Legend of Johnny Cash at 10.

Kenny Rogers just missed out on a top-10 entry as Water & Bridges sold 44,000 copies to open at 14. Also making chart splashes were From First to Last's Heroine at 25 with 33,000, My Chemical Romance's Life on the Murder Scene at 30 with 31,000 and the first Latin installment in the Now! franchise, Now ‘Esto Es Musica! Latino, at 36 with 27,000.

Elsewhere, Chicago's XXX entered at 41, Kutless' Hearts of the Innocent checked in at 45, the Slow Motion 2 collection opened at 87 and political punks Anti-Flag's For Blood and Empire landed at 100. Finally, Sweden's the Sounds sold more than 10,000 copies of their sophomore album, Dying to Say This to You, to open at 107; the disc also topped Billboard's Heatseekers chart.
