Post-Grammy J.Lo Feeling "Sick"
The reviews of Jennifer Lopez's Grammy duet with husband Marc Anthony would be enough to make anyone sick. Speaking of which...
Lopez has begged off Wednesday night's British premiere of her romantic comedy Shall We Dance?, citing an unspecified illness.
"I very much wanted to be in London today, but unfortunately I am not well," Lopez, 35, said in a statement. "At the advice of my doctors, I am unable to travel."
The actress-singer-fashionista said she would remain in Los Angeles during her convalescence.
Calls to Lopez's label and personal publicists were not returned Wednesday.
Not that the British press ever needs the prompting, but Lopez's "not well" status had ITV.com claiming that the cancellation was "sparking pregnancy rumors"--especially, it would seem, at ITV.com.
Lopez and Anthony, who wed in a hush-hush, never-quite-confirmed ceremony last June, came out as a couple on Sunday's Grammys. Taking to the stage in a plush boudoir set, the two dueted on, and acted out, the Spanish-language song "Escapimonos."
"The act was hobbled by the essential imbalance of talent between Lopez, a great actress and passable singer, and Anthony, a decent actor and phenomenal vocalist," the New York Daily News opined, in one of the more kind notices.
The Hollywood Reporter's write-off--"horrifying"--represented the less kind notices.
Lopez's musical career, though, marches on. She is scheduled to promote her new album, Rebirth, at a record store signing in New York City on Mar. 1, the album's release date. Rebirth features contributions from Fat Joe and Anthony, who produced a track.
A designing woman, Lopez showed off her first runway show last week in New York, an event documented for a Feb. 24 MTV special.
Continuing her post-Gigli rehab effort, Lopez will renew her movie-star status with at least two films in 2005: the Lasse Hallstrom drama An Unfinished Life and the comedy Monster-in-Law with Jane Fonda.
Future award-show duets with Anthony, meanwhile, are likely iffy.
