Posh: Not the Boss from Hell
Victoria Beckham just snagged herself a housewarming gift better than anything the Cruises might have in works.
The artist formerly known as Posh Spice has accepted undisclosed, though "substantial," libel damages from the U.K.'s Star magazine over an article in which the crew of her forthcoming NBC reality special dished on the singer's diva-like on-set behavior.
One teensy problem: At the time the article was published back in April, there was no on-set behavior, diva-like or otherwise, to speak of—primarily because there was no set. Beckham's reality show had not yet begun filming when the story was published.
Other than that...
Star's intrepid, if misinformed, reporters, cited unidentified sources who divined the singer to be "full of herself and not very nice."
The apparently clairvoyent crew also labeled Beckham "picky, demanding and rude" and insisted "she waltzes round with her icy attitude," per the offending article.
"The crew got a big laugh out of how she seems to think she's 'all that' and then some doorman or waiter has no clue who she is," the article read.
Beckham, 33, has flying shuttling England and the U.S. preparing for her family's arrival (husband David is preparing to begin play with the L.A. Galaxy). It was up to her lawyer to press her libel claim in Britain's High Court Monday, pointing to the timeline lapse in the magazine's story and claiming it was impossible for the reality show's crew to diss his client when the show had yet to begin filming.
"The story was therefore completely inaccurate and defamatory of Ms. Beckham," Gerrard Tyler said during the hearing, further adding that crew's purported remarks were "untrue and unfounded."
Tyler also noted that the magazine made no effort to contact Beckham about the allegations before going to print.
For its part, Star's publisher, Northern & Shell PLC, issued an apology and retraction to Beckham for the "distress and embarrassment caused to her," agreed to pay for her legal costs and offered a "substantial" amount of damages.
The special in question, Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, is set to air as a one-off special on NBC July 16. The family is relocating to Beverly Hills, and David Beckham's contract with the Galaxy goes into effect July 1.
Meanwhile, Victoria Beckham is expected join with her fellow Spice Girls later this week to announce a reunion.
