Pete Doherty Dreams of Summer Wedding

Romance is in the air for Pete Doherty, provided he can keep the drugs out of his system.

After maintaining an on-again, off-again relationship with Kate Moss for years, the troubled rocker vowed in his newly published diaries that he would wed the supermodel this summer.

Excerpts from The Books of Albion: The Collected Writings of Peter Doherty, a firsthand account of the last eight years of Doherty's life, were published Thursday by the Times of London.

In an entry written in January while he was detoxing at a London hospital, Doherty expressed determination to get clean and stay that way, with the end reward of making Moss his bride.

"I now surrender to the science of detoxification and pray that Godspeeds the worst of it, and Saturday morning at the latest will see me once more in my love's loving arms," he wrote.

"We have been close this time that passed, and with the smack and needle free, we shall marry in the summer and I become ten times happier than any given smackhead. Huzzah!"

Unfortunately for Doherty, the lure of the smack and needle apparently proved more compelling than a trip down the aisle, as he confessed to a judge at a progress report hearing in April that he was still using drugs.

The Babyshambles frontman admitted to Judge Jane McIvor that he could not provide the court with a clean drug test but promised to do so as soon as possible.

"A lot has changed in the past week," he told the judge at the time.

Though Doherty didn't elaborate on what those changes were, one of them may well have been a shift in the status of his relationship with Moss.

While performing a solo show at London's Hackney Empire earlier that month, Doherty dedicated a song to "my beautiful fiancée," and later brought Moss onstage for a duet.

More recently, Doherty and Moss have been posting oft-profane video clips on YouTube that show the couple performing together under the name "KP Nuts."

The videos are apparently a scheme to help the duo land a joint recording contract, or so Doherty told the U.K.'s Mirror.

"It takes a long time to get signed these days, and we thought we would post stuff on my Website to speed things up a bit," he said after posting the first video in April.

As they say, the couple that plays together, stays together. However, if staying clean is a prerequisite for Doherty to marry, it could be a long time before Moss gets fitted for her wedding gown.

The legally challenged rocker was arrested yet again last month on suspicion of possessing marijuana and crack cocaine. The consequences of his latest run-in with the law remain uncertain, though a judge warned him last September that he would face jail if he continued using drugs.

Doherty is scheduled to perform with Babyshambles at the Glastonbury Festival this weekend. Speculation is running high that he may also team up with his former bandmate Carl Barat for a Libertines reunion.
