Penélope Cruz Short a Few Frames

Penélope Cruz wants to keep her vacation memories in camera.

The Spanish actress' digital camera either was stolen out of her baggage or otherwise lost while she was traveling abroad recently, and now her Los Angeles attorneys are looking to ensure that the tabloids don't get too excited if exclusive pics from Cruz's getaway somehow make their way to their inboxes.

Among other things, the missing photos depict "a variety of private images" of the Volver star with her family and friends, according to a letter sent to various media outlets by the law firm Lavely & Singer.

A police report has been filed, with all of the images contained in Cruz's missing camera considered to be stolen or lost property at this time.

Any publication or other commercial use of the photos would be both a copyright violation and an invasion of the 33-year-old L'Oreal spokeswoman's privacy, the letter states.

Coincidentally, pictures belonging to Cruz's prominent pal Salma Hayek may have also fallen into the wrong hands recently.

The New York Post reported last week that the new mom reported her laptop missing to police while traveling overseas and was anxious to at least retrieve her hard drive because it contained photos of her four-month-old daughter, Valentina.

Even if Cruz's camera is never found and the contents never exploited, it seems as if the international paparazzi did a pretty thorough job chronicling her travels for her.

Although she denied last spring that they were an item, the Sahara heroine was spotted last week frolicking on a Brazilian beach with fellow Spaniard Javier Bardem, her costar in the upcoming Woody Allen comedy Vicky Cristina Barcelona and the in-the-works screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Nine
