Pax's Jolie-Pitt Stop

Pax Thien Jolie has just been Pitted.

The three-year-old newest addition to the Brangelina brood had his father's famous surname appended Thursday in Santa Monica Superior Court, joining siblings Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and Shiloh, 1, in the Jolie-Pitt pack.

The court approval was a mere formality and the family was not required to be present for the sign-off, according to a court clerk.

In keeping with Vietnamese custom, which prevents unmarried couples from adopting, Jolie had been listed as the sole parent when she took custody of the boy in March. Once she returned to the United States, however, she got to work on the appellation update.

On Apr. 16, Jolie filed the request with the court to have the boy's legal name be changed to Pax Thien Jolie-Pitt.

In January 2006, she requested and was granted a similar surname switch for Maddox and Zahara. As the couple's biological child, Shiloh, born May 27, 2006, was a Jolie-Pitt from the start.

While attending the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, Jolie announced that, upon the completion of two in the pipeline films later this fall, she would be taking a full year off from acting to spend more time with her family. Pitt, too, is expected to take some downtime, but he hasn't specifically stated whether his showbiz sabbatical will span a full 12 months as well.

Which is not to say that Jolie won't be working on other projects, including one very close to her mighty heart.

On Wednesday, Jolie, who among her other do-gooder extracurriculars serves as the honorary board chair of Global Action for Children, took time out to applaud President Bush's call to Congress to provide $30 billion in funding to emergency relief programs for children in developing countries.

"We are all very grateful that the President has made this major commitment to these children," she said in a statement. "There are the world's children and this is the world's responsibility, and we hope that other G-8 countries will follow his lead. I will continue to actively lobby on behalf of these children and encourage Congress to follow through on this commitment."
