Paris Postpones "Paris"

No matter how much the haters want to fight it, it's clear we'll always have Paris.

Though the haters have won a two-week reprieve.

Paris Hilton has announced a new release date for her eponymous debut album, pushing it back from Aug. 8 to Aug. 22.

There's no official word on why the album is being delayed, especially with her debut single, "Stars Are Blind," doing well on the pop charts. The track currently ranks 16th on the Billboard Hot 100 and its video is in rotation on the major music channels.

Paris is being released on Hilton's own Heiress Records, a sub-label she created at Warner Bros. Records in 2004. The album was recorded in Miami and Los Angeles over the past year.

But its roots date back at least two years, when The Simple Life star engaged in a battle royale with Hilary Duff's big sister, Haylie, over the rights to the song "Screwed," which both Paris and Haylie had recorded.

While Hilton inevitably won out, it's unclear whether the disputed tune will even appear on Paris--Heiress Records has yet to release a finalized track list.

We do know that in addition to "Stars Are Blind," the aspiring pop diva has recorded the club-ready dance track "Turn It Up," the poppy "I Want You" and "Fightin' Over Me," featuring rappers Fat Joe and Jadakiss.

Last May, she also announced that she had recorded a cover of Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy." (Perhaps not so coincidentally, Stewart's daughter Kimberly is a mainstay of Hilton's partying posse.)

Hilton also assembled a star-studded roster of behind-the-scenes talent for her premiere musical outing, corralling in-demand music producers Scott Storch, Jonathan "J.R." Rotem and Dr. Luke, who together have helmed hits for 50 Cent, Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson. Also pitching in: Three 6 Mafia, who joined Hilton in the studio shortly after their Oscar win.

Hilton claims to have cowritten seven of the tracks, but still enlisted the help of blockbuster songwriters Kara DioGuardi, who's penned ditties for Christina Aguilera and Ashlee Simpson, and Madonna's go-to guy Billy Steinberg.

When it finally is sprung upon us, Paris promises to fuse pop, hip-hop and, as evidenced by "Stars Are Blind," even a little reggae.

"The whole album has so much different music on it," Hilton said last spring. "I like all music. It's not like I only like pop or rock. I want to have something for everybody."

"It's fun music," DioGuardi told the Los Angeles Times in April. "It's danceable with great beats. She has a very sweet voice. It sounds exactly like what you would want Paris to be doing."

"She's got quite a musical ability," Storch added. "Her rhythm is much better than a lot of people I've recorded in the past."

A behind-the-scenes special chronicling the making of Paris is set to air on MTV and VH1 on Aug. 8.
