Oprah's Farewell: Backstage With Madonna, Usher and More!
To call Tuesday's taping of the two-part Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular at Chicago's United Center anything less than, well, spectacular, is certainly an understatement.
After all, it's not everyday you see so many celebs gather together to celebrate someone. Then again, not everyone is Oprah Winfrey.
So what did the stars who were on hand have to say about the big shindig?
UPDATE!
Oprah Tapes Her Big Goodbye: Just How Many Stars Showed Up?
Four horsemen didn't come thundering along, but Oprah Winfrey signing off from daytime TV sure seems like a good indicator of the apocalypse. (Whether it comes on Saturday or not.)
But at least the reigning talk-show queen, who pulled herself out of the Daytime Emmys running years ago because she just kept winning, went out true to form—surrounded by thousands of cheering, crying fans and oodles of celebrities.
The Oprah Winfrey Show commandeered Chicago's United Center to tape the two-part Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular, and she needed the nearly 20,000-seat arena to contain all the excitement.
Oprah Winfrey and Writer James Frey Face Off Once Again!
It isn't every day Oprah Winfrey rips her guests a new one. But when she does, you don't forget it.
Yet James Frey, the author who admitted fabricating parts of his so-called memoir, A Million Little Pieces, and was therefore called out by the talk show host on The Oprah Winfrey Show in January 2006, was back for a years-in-the-making postmortem on Monday's show.
And yes, it was hard to watch.
Shockers, Snubs and Sentimental Faves: Five Things to Know About the Daytime Emmy Nominations
Almost seems bittersweet, right? Some of your favorite soaps get canceled and then honored. If they were so deserving of accolades, why not leave them on air, right? But alas, that's showbiz, kids.
This morning, the nominations for the 38th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were unveiled, with General Hospital (call it the James Franco effect) scoring a leading 21 nominations. Hot on its tail (it's jealous evil twin of sorts) was The Young and the Restless, which earned 20, followed by Sesame Street, with 16.
But enough with the numbers. We want the snubs! The sweeps! The huhs?! So here are some cold, hard facts—five of them, actually—you need to know about the Daytime Emmy nominations.
Did Osama bin Laden Nearly Kill Oprah's Obama Special?
You would be very hard-pressed to find an American who was anything other than ecstatic, relieved and grateful upon hearing Sunday night's news that American forces had killed Osama bin Laden.
Hard-pressed, that is, unless you knew where to look. And that place was in Oprah Winfrey's Harpo HQ.
Kirstie Alley: Dancing With the Stars Is "Really Cathartic"
We know. It's hard to concentrate on what Kirstie Alley is saying to Oprah Winfrey, what with Maksim Chmerkovskiy standing there with no shirt on. But concentrate! Because it's really quite sweet.
"It's actually been really cathartic for me because I felt like I was a little broken for awhile, so it gave me confidence back," she said of her (accident-prone but ongoing!) Dancing With the Stars experience. "It's amazing."
Her clothing-averse partner, meanwhile, clearly feels the same, saying that he's "never got a star of this caliber before." Uh, we're guessing Mel B ain't gonna be too happy with that statement.
So, will the duo make it to the finals? Time will tell. But we're gonna have to side with Tom Bergeron on this one.
Oprah Enters Lost Territory: It's Gonna Cost How Much to Advertise on Final Show?!
Just how much will it cost advertisers to shill their wares to a nation full of mourning TV viewers? Let's just say, they'd better have Oprah money.
The figures are out for the final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, and the going rate for a 30-second commercial spot during her May 25 sign-off might even put the Super Bowl to shame.
So just how much are we talking?
Oprah Winfrey's Final Show Will Air...
Exactly two months from today. That's when Oprah Winfrey will be a free woman. Or as free as you can be when you have a media empire to manage.
After 25 years on the tube, The Oprah Winfrey Show will broadcast its final original episode on May 25.
But that won't be the last we see of the O.
Tina Fey, Ricky Martin, True Blood Get GLAAD
It's official: there's no award 30 Rock hasn't received. And no awards show James Franco can't somehow shoehorn his way into.
The latest addition to Tina Fey's no doubt already buckling bookshelf is courtesy of the GLAAD Media Awards, which handed out its 22nd annual round of honors in New York Saturday night.
So what was Fey's achievement this time around? And what does that have to do with Franco?
David Arquette Tells Oprah He Drank His First Beer When He Was 4 Years Old
David Arquette is sober and speaking out.
The estranged hubby of Courteney Cox sat down with Oprah Winfrey (the interview airs on her show tomorrow) to openly discuss, among other things, his long battle with alcohol and the intervention that led to his recent stint in rehab.
