So True? So False? Did Jenny McCarthy Dump Oprah Winfrey?!

Jenny McCarthy, Oprah Winfrey oprah.com
So True So False, STSF

Uh O.

Over the last few years, Jenny McCarthy seemed all but guaranteed to take her rightful place in the pantheon of Oprah's Favorite Things: Human Beings Edition (just below John Travolta and Maria Shriver, obviously), thanks not only to her increasing appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in its final season (miss you already!) but to the development deal she brokered with OWN back in 2009.

But all those brownie points seemed to fly right out the window this morning, when a report surfaced claiming that McCarthy was unhappy with the creative direction at OWN and had subsequently upped sticks from the ratings-shy cable net and headed to the much more viewer-friendly shores of NBC.

But is it true? Would Jenny (or any mere mortal, for that matter) really risk the wrath of Oprah? Did she really bail on her friend? Don't touch that dial just yet, because this rumor is…

Oprah Winfrey Gets Schooled in South Africa

Oprah Winfrey AP Photo/Themba Hadebe

Oprah Winfrey has been doing a pretty good job of remaining out of the spotlight since saying goodbye to 25 years on air, but she popped back up on the radar in South Africa today, where she received an honorary degree.

Well, Dr. Oprah does have a pretty nice ring to it.

The University of the Free State—whose 4,500-seat auditorium was, as one would expect, completely sold out for the star-honoring ceremony—awarded its 152nd honorary doctorate to Oprah, who threw her hands up in the air when told she was a "Kovsie," or member of the university's family.

Incidentally, Oprah happened to be in the country at the same time as First Lady Michelle Obama, and the two women dined together in Johannesburg Tuesday night. Talk about a power couple.

Oprah Finale Ratings Are In—Just How Big Was It?

You watched it. Your coworker watched it. You know your mom watched it. But just how many other Americans tuned in to watch Oprah Winfrey issue an emotional—and, incidentally, rather educational—goodbye last month?

Well, the ratings figures are in for the final Oprah Winfrey Show. So, how'd she do? And did her swan song manage to become her highest-rated episode in all 25 years on air?

Who Had the More Awkward Finale: Oprah & Stedman or J.Lo & Marc?

More from The Awful Truth

Does it even matter what goes on in the privacy of a couple's home when they can shimmy-shake it together in front of millions—just like Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony—or quasi-passionately embrace, à la Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham?

This, ladies and gents, is what we call a showmance.

Y'all know Oprah wanted to hug Gayle instead of Stedman when she walked off that stage for the last time yesterday, and who is J.Lo kidding acting as a—gasp!—back-up dancer for her hubby?

American Idol Finale vs. Oprah Finale: How Big Were They?

Since the world didn't end last weekend there were plenty of people to tune in for Oprah Winfrey's swan song and Scotty McCreery take the American Idol title.

We figured both finales would be big, but just how huge were they?

Morning Bitch-Back! Adios, Oprah...Hello, Infamy!

Dear Ted:
Let's talk Oprah. So sad her show ended. I know everyone thinks she is the popular guess for Butter Pussy, but I just don't buy it. I mean, remember how Ellen DeGeneres officially came out on Oprah's show? I just don't think that someone who would be so supportive and open as to give Ellen a platform to do that could stay firmly locked in the closet herself. Love ya, and great job with trying to quit the cancer sticks.

Dear The Big O:
You have good reason to doubt that muy popular Vice guess, super-puss. I do, too. But isn't it interesting you didn't actually ask me to answer, so...I won't!  Regardless,  haven't I always told you that some B.V.s aren't as obvious as they seem? But Oprah does have some dirty little deets that she managed to keep secret all these years she was on air. Impressive, huh? But that's why she's the most powerful chatty cathy ever.

Dear Ted:
Please say it isn't so: Renée Zellweger and John Mayer?! This calls for some sort of intervention. Can you do anything to get Renée away from this schmuck?! I know you have a "don't get involved" policy but can you make an exception? P.S. So proud of you for giving up the cigs!!!

Oprah Winfrey Says Goodbye and Thank You for 25 Years of Oprah, "The Great Love of My Life"

No point can be made quite as finely as this one: whether you liked her or didn't; whether you watched her or didn't; it is, without a doubt, the end of an era. The era of Oprah Winfrey.

After 25 years spent burrowing into the public consciousness, the final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show aired this morning, leaving a massive hole not only in the daytime programming schedule, but in the hearts of generations of women. And, OK, a couple men, too.

If you haven't yet, now would be a good time to grab a box of tissues.

To call Tuesday's taping of the two-part Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular at Chicago's United Center anything less than, well, spectacular, is certainly an understatement.

After all, it's not everyday you see so many celebs gather together to celebrate someone. Then again, not everyone is Oprah Winfrey.

So what did the stars who were on hand have to say about the big shindig?

Oprah Tapes Her Big Goodbye: Just How Many Stars Showed Up?

Four horsemen didn't come thundering along, but Oprah Winfrey signing off from daytime TV sure seems like a good indicator of the apocalypse. (Whether it comes on Saturday or not.)

But at least the reigning talk-show queen, who pulled herself out of the Daytime Emmys running years ago because she just kept winning, went out true to form—surrounded by thousands of cheering, crying fans and oodles of celebrities.

The Oprah Winfrey Show commandeered Chicago's United Center to tape the two-part Surprise Oprah! A Farewell Spectacular, and she needed the nearly 20,000-seat arena to contain all the excitement.
