Steven Soderbergh ha iniziato a sviluppare un film biografico su Liberace (del quale intende curare la regia) con Michael Douglas nel ruolo del musicista, stando a quanto scrive Variety; Matt Damon è in trattative per interpretare il suo litigioso ex amante.
Con una sceneggiatura di Richard LaGravenese (La leggenda del re pescatore, L’uomo che sussurrava ai cavalli) il film narrerebbe le vita eccentrica ma segreta del leggendario intrattenitore, inclusa la battaglia con l’ex amante Scot Thorson, il quale ha vinto una causa per alimenti poco prima della morte per AIDS di Liberace nel 1987.
Ecco un’occhiata ad alcuni altri progetti in cantiere:
• La Universal ha firmato un accordo con Sid e Marty Krofft per fare un film live-action basato sul loro strano programma televisivo per bambini, andato in onda negli anni 70, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, su un mostro marino in fuga che fa amicizia con due bambini. I Krofft hanno segnato il loro ritorno anche vendendo alla Sony i diritti live-action di H.R. Pufnstuf, e Will Ferrell sarà il protagonista del loro Land of the Lost, che uscirà al cinema il prossimo giugno.
• La New Line Cinema ha acquistato i diritti del romanzo best seller How to Be Single della scrittrice-produttrice di Sex and the City, Liz Tuccillo, sulla vita sentimentale di cinque donne a New York. Il film sarà prodotto dalla Flower Films di Drew Barrymore ma non si sa ancora se l’attrice ne sarà la protagonista.
• La Fox TV Studios ha iniziato la produzione di Persons Unknown, la prima opera televisiva dello sceneggiatore vincitore di un Oscar Christopher McQuarrie (I soliti sospetti). La serie narra di sette estranei che si svegliano in un villaggio nel deserto sorvegliati dappertutto da videocamere di sicurezza. McQuarrie sarà il produttore esecutivo insieme a sua moglie, Heather. Le riprese inizieranno il 27 ottobre in Messico.
