No Remedy for Spin Doctors
Spin Doctors frontman Chris Barron has been diagnosed with a rare paralysis of his vocal cords, reports the band's label, Universal Records. Presently, the singer cannot raise his voice above a whisper, and doctors indicate he may never regain full use of his pipes.
All promotional activities to promote the band's most recent album, Here Comes the Bride, have been canceled.
"Universal Records offers its sincerest support and encouragement to Chris during this most difficult time," the record company says. "We join with Chris' bandmates, their families and their fans around the world in wishing him a healthy and speedy recovery."
The Spin Doctors became an overnight sensation in 1991 when millions of copies of their debut album, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, were sold around the world. Their second album, Turn It Upside Down, hit the charts with considerably less fanfare in 1994, prompting Epic, the group's record label at the time, to dump the New York-based band. Here Come the Bride, released this summer, was the first album under the Universal label.
The band made legal headlines in 1997 with their case against Miller Brewing Company. The beer giant was found liable for copyright infringement for using a song that was strikingly similar to "Two Princes" in a commercial.
