No Love for Courtney
The rocker has filed a lawsuit against Lesley Barber, claiming the woman is "on a mission to destroy" Love after allegedly driving her Volvo over Love's foot (costing the sometime actress a plum movie role) and threatening to burn down Love's house and plant cocaine in her car.
The alleged reason for all this Love-directed mayhem: Barber blames the Hole singer for stealing her former husband, music exec Jim Barber.
Love, who has been dating Jim Barber for almost two years, says she has been the "victim of a 20-month campaign of stalking" and harassment waged by Lesley Barber. According to a lawsuit filed December 15 in the Santa Monica branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court and reported this week by Inside.com, Love accuses Lesley Barber of assault, battery, trespassing, infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy. The singer also seeks damages in excess of $1.5 million and an injunction against Barber to "prevent further harm."
Barber has been unreachable for comment.
In the suit, Love, 36, claims that since April 1999, Barber has hired private investigators to spy on her, pestering her with prank calls and threats. "She told [Love] to her face, 'You're a bitch and I'm going to get you,' " the lawsuit states.
Then, on June 4, Barber, who was at Love's home, gunned her Volvo and sped toward Love. Love says she tried to jump out of the way, but the car ran over her foot.
Because of the injury, Love says, she was unable to do the physical training for the upcoming sci-fi film John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. She was replaced by Natasha Henstridge and lost out on her $1.5 million paycheck. (The film is slated for an August debut.)
Since her husband, Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in 1994, Love has been romantically attached to Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor and actor Edward Norton before hooking up with Jim Barber.
