No Idle Time for Touring Kelly

Behind those hazel eyes is a performer itching to hit the road.

Original American Idol champ turned certified pop star Kelly Clarkson is set to launch a 24-city summer tour in support of her second chart-topping record, Breakaway, kicking off June 30 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Addicted tour will not only feature tunes from Clarkson's six-times-platinum current album, but also from her next one. Clarkson says she will use the tour to preview material for her forthcoming third album, set to hit stores in late 2006 or early 2007.

Not that she doesn't have enough material already.

Her second album has been a mainstay on the charts since debuting in November 2004, has earned Clarkson two Grammys, and spawned four number one singles: "Breakaway," "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Because of You."

Her summer tour will run just over a month and hits several major burgs, including Chicago, Philadelphia, Houston, Washington, D.C., Boston and San Francisco, before wrapping up outside Seattle in August, at which time Clarkson plans on heading into the studio.

In February, she told MTV she plans on writing most of her new tracks on the road, having already completed several songs on the recently completed European leg of her tour.

"It's a great emotional state to write at when you're tired, because on the road you are going so many places, and being a little rundown can be good for you sometimes, like, especially creatively," she said.

As for what fans might expect on the anticipated album, well, Clarkson says it'll have the best of both worlds--pop and rock.

"Some of the stuff on the new album is very singer-songwriter, because I love people like Patty Griffin and Ryan Adams," she said. "And then there's stuff that's real intense rock stuff, more rock than Breakaway. It's going to be a cool album."

If she does say so herself.

Tickets for the tour go on sale Apr. 22, with a select number of premium seats for each show being made available through an online auction. For each ticket auctioned, a portion of the sale will go toward the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure breast cancer initiative.
