As E! News exclusively reported, Leslie Carter was laid to rest over the weekend in a modest and "touching" funeral attended by an intimate group of family members.

While Aaron Carter was among the mourners, notably absent was Nick Carter, who has since spoken out to explain his seemingly out-of-character no-show.

"I wanted to be at my sister's funeral, but my family has always had a complicated dynamic," Nick said in a statement to E! News.

"I love my family. I want to thank everyone for all of their compassion and support that I have received during this most difficult time."

Though rumors are swirling that he was never informed that services were taking place for Leslie yesterday afternoon, Nick did in fact have professional obligations and was performing over the weekend. Family dynamics aside, he's choosing now to focus on the most important thing: the memory of his sister.

"There are so many emotions for me surrounding the loss of my sister. I am trying to stay healthy, positive and focused."

Aaron also reached out to confirm the reasoning for his brother's absence, telling E! News in a statement, "It was a beautiful service in memory of our sister Leslie. I wish Nick could have been there, but he had other obligations. Anything stating Nick was uninformed of the funeral is untrue."
