Nic Cage Sells His Castle

With the economy in a moat these days, Nicolas Cage has a castle he'd like to sell you.

It's no fairy tale. After spending two years making extensive renovations, the Leaving Las Vegas star has sold a Bavarian castle he owns in Germany, according to regional daily newspaper Mittelbayerische Zeitung.

Cage bought the 11th century Schloss Neidstein retreat for $2.3 million back in July 2006, partly because his mother, Joy Vogelsang, hails from Deutschland. The 9,688-square-foot citadel—sporting 28 rooms, including 10 bedrooms and five5 bathrooms—sits atop a hill overlooking more than 395 acres of pristine forest and meadows.

The 45-year-old thesp put more than $4 million into the fixer-upper, but given the credit crisis, decided to unload the castle to his former lawyer. According to the U.K.'s Telegraph newspaper, he only spent one night at the place.

Of course, Cage has another castle to fall back on. He also owns the Midford Castle just outside of Bath, England, an 18th century gothic style affair he purchased in 2007 for $7.3 million—the Superman lover's own private fortress of solitude for him, third wife Alice and their 3-year-old son, Kal-El.
