My Vegas Roadtrip: Big Stars and Poker Flicks
Miramax Films, LLC
Some good celeb sightings in Las Vegas this weekend, as I hit Sin City to celebrate my buddy Jon Budish getting a seat in the World Series of Poker. He didn't win, but he really did his thing. A few we saw: Jose Canseco, Montel Williams, Jenna Jameson, Brandy and her old boyfriend, NY Knick Quentin Richardson. Oh, and lots and lots of ex-Real World stars.
Makes me think of my favorite Vegas/gambling movies.
Of course, the Ocean's franchise is right up there. The original with the Rat Pack and even the remake with all the famous dudes.
I'm also a big fan of Con Air, which doesn't take place in Vegas, but the final scene with a jumbo jet crashing down the strip is pretty badass.
Then there's Rounders, which isn't a Vegas movie but got the world excited about poker again. So many great lines and characters and scenes. Plus, Ed Norton and Matt Damon onscreen together. Now that's a poker movie, not this Lucky You crap with Drew Barrymore.
Last but not least, the best Vegas movie of all time, the flick that coined "Vegas, baby, Vegas!" Of course, I'm talking about Swingers, the first 20 minutes in particular.
Okay, gotta find a way home, I can feel the demons and self-loathing starting to kick in. Off to NYC tomorrow to hang out with Sienna Miller. The Lyons Den rolls on.
