Mr. Big Back for More Sex

The question of will he or won't he has finally been settled. Now, it's the matter of will they or won't they that's preoccupying Sex and the City fans.

Chris Noth has been confirmed to reprise his role as Mr. Big, the financially secure, morally ambiguous love of Carrie Bradshaw's life, when the long-gestating big-screen adaptation of the Emmy-winning HBO series goes into production next month.

"There is no need for funeral arrangements," the film's writer, director and executive producer, Michael Patrick King, said in a statement. "I assure you that Mr. Big is a very big part of the Sex and the City movie.

"While I have not spoken to him myself, Chris Noth assures me that Mr. Big is alive and well and ready to report to the set in September."

Noth will be pulling double duty this fall, working simultaneously on the Sex and the City movie and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Producer Dick Wolf said earlier this summer that Criminal Intent would accommodate Noth's Sex stint should the actor sign up for the film.

Since the movie was officially greenlighted by New Line last month, there have been a slew of so-called definitive reports alternately declaring that Noth would and would not be returning as the quintessential cad.

When the show ended its six-season run on HBO in 2004, Big famously got the girl, along with a first name—John.

Regardless, whether or not their coupling lived happily ever after will no doubt be a major plot point in the film, whose storyline has been kept under the tightest of wraps.

Other than Sarah Jessica Parker and her onscreen BFFs—Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall—Noth is the only other confirmed Sex star returning for the film. King has yet to say whether key supporting players like Evan Handler (Harry), David Eigenberg (Steve), Jason Lewis (Smith), Willie Garson (Stanford) or Mario Cantone (Anthony) will be back.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in and around Manhattan next month.
