Waist Deep

C-
Five words you probably won't see on a poster for Waist Deep: "From the director of Glitter." That should be all the warning you need to steer clear of this hyped-up, wannabe-Bonnie-
and-Clyde thriller starring Tyrese Gibson, Meagan Good and rapper The Game, who plays a Bond-worthy crime lord with the unfortunate nickname of Big Meat, which, if nothing else, should make for an entertaining gag reel on the DVD. Too bad there's little else of entertainment value here. Waist Deep has all the lurid plotting and stereotypes of old-school blaxploitation films but none of the defiant spirit or goofy cheer, so it requires ever-heightened suspensions of disbelief and gives little payoff in return. Since all the potentially exciting scenes are reduced to music-video montage and the rest is unappealing melodrama, Waist Deep turns out to be a shallow waste.
