The margins of history are lined with strange but true stories of, if not heroism, then definitely sweet-natured delusions of it. This goofy, good-hearted film details exactly what happened to two such deluded souls when a pair of WWII British soldiers (Kenneth Cranham and Leo Bill) in the Dental Corps decide to drum up a real assignment of their own.
Risking certain court-martial, the pair slipped away from their unit and headed to France on a sabotage mission. If it all sounds too far-fetched to believe, remember, the film is based on a real story, and--even if some of the details are flubbed--its gentle patriotic spirit rings true. And in a particular warring era like now, a simple dose of nostalgia like this goes down easily.
