Travellers and Magicians

A
A Buddhist monk, an apple vendor and a young government official are waiting at a bus stop...This sounds like the setup for a hilarious joke, huh? Instead, it's the premise of the latest film from The Cup's Khyentse Norbu. The first feature film to be shot entirely in Bhutan, Magicians tells the intertwining tales of a group of hitchhikers and a young magician in love. What transpires is a fable as spiritual and mystical as the land it comes from, beginning with the antsy, Western-obsessed college grad who dreams of going to America and the storytelling monk who warns him that dreamlands aren't so pleasant after you wake up. Travellers takes a series of surprising turns that result in a delightful lesson of self-discovery and may even leave you believing in magic.
