And in this corner...Tasuma, the Fighter! Okay, this is not about a WWE star, but this import
is about a battle between a retired West African soldier (Mamadou Zerbo), money problems and a bunch of grain. After serving in WWII, Zerbo has been trying to collect his military pension--for
50 years. The vet is so confident his check is in the mail that he buys a grain mill on credit for his village.
The grateful townsfolk literally sing Zerbo's praises, but the grain hits the fan when the mill bill arrives. A row with the seller sends Zerbo to prison, the villagers rally 'round, and we get a tale of hope and determination that's oddly light on drama. So, while this interesting peek at the culture of Burkina Faso may tug at your heart, it doesn't make for a champion of a film.
