The Recruit

Don't enlist for The Recruit. Part Spy Game, part Training Day and wholly a mess, this mentor/student flick finds hunky Colin Farrell (with permanent five o'clock shadow intact) heading off to a secret CIA training facility overseen by all-knowing agent Al Pacino. But, hoo-wha, there are secrets around every corner, and poor Farrell can't trust anyone--not even the sexy Bridget Moynahan. Is there a international conspiracy afoot? Or is it just the final exam? The movie's so busy creating twists and turns that it never finds a rhythm; the hackneyed storytelling limits Farrell's finer qualities, and Pacino is downright annoying with his endless supply of profound speeches. Chalk this one up as a Mission: Unwatchable.
