Style over substance is nothing new. But if it must happen, shouldn't the style be original? There's no such luck in Greg Harrison's new picture, an all-but-explicit homage to (or rip-off of) flicks like
Seven and
Memento. The movie is a batch of "what ifs" in which a nervous and distracted photography teacher (
Courteney Cox) relives a grocery-store robbery whose violent outcome is subtly but significantly altered with each telling.
It's a decent premise, but Harrison forgets to add any suspense, instead relying on his slow-moving digital-video scenes to conjure something. It doesn't. The film isn't helped by Cox's zombie-like portrayal, either. Some supporting peeps breathe life into the tale, but it's not enough. Scratch
