This may be a story about big men, big skies and one big dam problem, but the latest from twin brother writing-directing team the Polish brothers is really about gazing at cool scenery and discovering varying shades of gray. This surreal reflection on midwestern life focuses on a tiny 1955 Montana town, right when James Woods (as a Fed in an Agent Smith-style getup) leads a committee that's trying to get its citizens out of the way for a dam project. (If they can get the stubborn sellers to move, he and his crew get a piece of land as a thank you.) The move forces Claire Forlani to abandon her sickly, adopted child with town preacher Nick Nolte. The kid then dreams about angels, and things start getting really weird. For the cinephiles, the haunting production is simply delicious, but the glacial pace of the storytelling will put everyone else to sleep. But then you can dream about angels, too. Just hope they look like Cameron Diaz.
