This cop comedy is charged with an inane script, an unrealistic setup and brutally unfunny gags. No wonder National Security has been assigned inactive duty for some time (the flick has been shelved for nearly two years since its completion). Here, Martin Lawrence works the same tired beat as a loudmouthed security officer who must team up with ex-cop Steve Zahn to break up a smuggling ring and uncover a group of dirty LAPD officers. Zahn, a talented performer, should have the know-how to pick better stuff than this rehashed mess. And Lawrence, well, you don't have to look any further than Black Knight or What's the Worst That Could Happen? to see where his career is headed. Guilty as charged: This movie blows.
