Scarlett Johansson shacks up with two drunks! No, that's not the latest
Us Weekly cover story, it's the plot of this tough and tender tale about getting to know your family, yourself and what really matters to you. When Johansson inherits and inhabits a New Orleans home once owned by her mother, she find it occupied by squatters, a fallen-from-grace literature professor (
John Travolta) and his sidekick (brilliant and beautiful newcomer Gabriel Macht).
At first they face off, each waiting for the other to leave. But the trio eventually grow to understand and trust one another. As an arrogant boozer oozing with southern charm, Travolta surprisingly proves he can still hold an audience's attention, and Johansson charms any role thrown her way. Even with an ending that's as obvious as the
Christmas with the Kranks conclusion, this journey provides a good cry and a thoughtful reexamination of the American family. It's easy to fall for
Bobby Long.
