Seems men behave badly no matter what part of the world they're in. French writer-director Yvan Attal knows this and embraces it for his latest, in which three middle-aged men lament the women they're married to while pining for those who got--and are getting--away. Things heat up when one married car salesman (played by Attal himself, how convenient!) starts fooling around on his wife (who is played by Charlotte Gainsbourg, Attal's wife in real life!).
Conjecture, fantasies and fears abound when things start getting steamy. Attal has a way of interweaving his characters' real lives and inner thoughts into the fabric of his film in inventive and engaging ways. His gift for comic subtlety is no less appealing (he even makes toy vacuum cleaners funny). These are important things, people, because they allow Attal to take a fresh path as he traverses familiar territory.
