The devil must have made them do it, 'cuz we can't come up with any other reason why MTV has made yet another junky movie with a great soundtrack. Like Snow Dogs with singing, the film stars Cuba Gooding Jr. as a New York ad guy who returns to his hometown to get his church's shabby choir in shape for the big competition. With Beyoncé, Montell Jordan, Angie Stone and others chiming in, you can bet they're gonna take home the trophy. They do (duh!) and dedicate plenty of time to the soundtrack's tunes (which are great). So much so, you'll find yourself praying for the next groovy gospel number to get you through the two hours of vapid dialogue, overdone sentiment and Gooding's over-animated acting. How 'bout not leading us into Temptations?
