Deck The Halls
Can't we just deck director John Whitesell instead? After this and Big Momma's House 2, the man needs to hang his head in shame, and never get near the camera again (alas, he's currently prepping Cats & Dogs 2: Tinkle's Revenge).
Danny DeVito plays insecure car salesman Buddy Hall, whose family moves in next door to that of obsessive-compulsive optician Steve Finch (Matthew Broderick). All is well until Buddy decides he wants his house to be lit so brightly that it can be seen on satellite maps, which is no fun for anyone living in the immediate vicinity and trying to sleep. The movie's title is as clever as the humor ever gets.
If you were unfortunate enough to see Cheaper by the Dozen 2 last year, you've suffered enough of the dorky dueling dad dramatics. This sort of thing can be funny...but you have to identify with at least one of the participants. Otherwise, it's just frustrating to note that when they blow themselves up with fireworks or fall into frozen pools, they don't actually die.
